Forwood Elementary School is located on spacious grounds in a quiet residential section in the North Graylyn Crest community. Our school, renovated in 2004-2005, is a one-story building and is home to over 350 students in grades K-5.  Our campus is the hub of the community and has over 20 classrooms, specialized instructional spaces, a community garden and outdoor classroom, library, gymnasium, auditorium, and cafeteria.  Students who participate in Brandywine School District's  Intensive Learning Program receive specialized programming and call Forwood home.

At Forwood Elementary School, we put children first as we work to create a motivating and challenging learning environment. Mastery of basic academic and thinking skills, hands-on learning, enrichment activities and remedial assistance are characteristic of the teaching at Forwood. Thematic instruction and technology education are also part of our program. Our instructional staff includes a principal, assistant principal, classroom teachers, reading specialist, special education teachers, paraprofessionals , art, library, music and physical education teachers, school counselor, speech and language teachers, special education coordinator, school psychologist, and behavior interventionist.

Mission:  Our mission is to promote academic excellence in a safe, caring and inclusive learning environment  while encouraging safe, responsible, respectful and productive citizenship through collaborative partnership between students, families, educators and community. We believe all children can learn and succeed if provided with a creative and challenging instructional program in an environment that is safe and is based on respect and high expectations for achievement. Our standards-based curriculum integrates technology and interactive lessons to develop students' problem-solving skills and promote opportunities for critical thinking. Through the partnership of parents, staff, students and the community, our children will become life-long learners and valued members of society.

Goals:  Forwood's School Improvement Goals for the year are: promote excellence in student achievement; establish the social-emotional development of children as an integral part of the education process; develop dynamic community partnerships; ensure that all staff have opportunities to grow professionally; emphasize creativity and problem solving; and prepare students to compete successfully in a global economy.

Parent Involvement:  Membership in the Forwood PTA is strong year after year. Forwood is consistently among the leading schools in Delaware in PTA membership. The PTA sponsors events that build school spirit, provide academic and cultural enrichment, and promote a caring community atmosphere. Specific activities include field trips, assemblies, and student recognition programs. The PTA also coordinates a parent volunteer program for classrooms, the library, and school activities. Over 30 different PTA committees address Forwood functions such as book fairs, teacher appreciation, collection drives, building and grounds beautification, science and technology, staff mini-grants and so much more.
